Jasper, Alberta to Lake McLeod, BC

Today we drive the Yellowhead Highway. It is named for an Iroquois trapper and guide for the Hudson Bay Company who had light-colored hair, tete jaune. Driving through Mt Robson Provincial Park we view Mt Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. Guess the mountains can’t get any bigger.

We almost drive past the trailhead to Rearguard Falls, but the Milepost alerts us to stop. It’s a five minute walk (downhill again) to the best falls we’ve seen since Niagara. It’s a “wow”. The boardwalk which is an engineering marvel, takes us within feet of the roaring water and the fall’s sleek power.
Back on the road we spot a black bear, which turns tail and scoots for the underbrush before we get a good look

McBride is a cute little town with an Internet Café in their historic train station. I read email and Jim conducts business while we (I) sip lemon tea and enjoy a cookie, (we). We purchase one slice of pumpkin pie to share for dessert later tonight. The train station still has an active track just outside and we listen to trains rattling by.

We stop at a turn-out and walk a wooded trail to a viewing platform in moose habitat. No moose here, but we see one, complete with antlers, in the highway verge later in the day. The platform is interesting, though. If one had time to sit quietly on a bench on the elevated wooden structure who knows what might wander by.

We pass through Prince George and travel the John Hart Highway, (Hart was a BC premier), to Whiskers Point Provincial Park on Lake McLeod where we find a camping spot so close to the lakeshore. I’m concerned about rolling on in.
It is so quiet and cozy here in our trailer, I snuggle up on the bed with my Costco throw (luxurious), sip my wine, and read, with a glance out the open window to the lake at every page turn. I can hear the water lapping. Aaaaaah.
